Scheduling depends on weather, sod availability, project size, and prep work. After the site visit, we give you the current installation window for your specific project.
Do you offer free estimates?
Yes. The owner visits your property to assess the job and texts you the estimate. You do not need to measure the yard first.

Which sod type is best for my yard?
Start with sunlight, traffic, irrigation and mowing needs. Floratam needs a sunny site; Palmetto may suit partial shade, but no turf is a dependable answer to dense shade. Zoysia, Bermuda and Bahia have different wear and maintenance tradeoffs. We assess the property before recommending a cultivar.
Can I mix different sod types in my yard?
We occasionally install different types in different areas — for example, shade-tolerant Palmetto St. Augustine under trees and Empire Zoysia in sunny sections. However, mixing types in the same visible area creates an uneven appearance.
What is the most popular sod in Jacksonville?
St. Augustine is one of the most common choices for Jacksonville yards but shade tolerance varies by cultivar; Floratam is a full-sun choice. Zoysia, Bermuda, and Bahia can also make sense depending on sun, traffic, budget, and maintenance expectations.
Installation Process
What does the installation process include?
Our estimate covers spraying and killing weeds, removing old grass and weeds with a sod cutter, hauling them to the dump, and installing new sod. The quoted price includes sod, labor, dump fee, taxes, and delivery.
How long does installation take?
The installation window depends on area, removal, preparation, access, weather and sod availability. We confirm it for your written scope rather than promising a universal completion time.
Do I need to be home during installation?
Not necessarily, but someone should be available for the initial walkthrough and final review. Many homeowners continue their normal routine while our crew works.
Cost & Pricing
How much does sod installation cost?
The measured area, cultivar, removal, preparation, access and delivery determine the quote. Ask what is included and which repairs are separately scoped. Compare written estimates for the same work.
When do I pay, and which payment methods do you accept?
A 50% deposit is required when you accept the job, and the remaining 50% is due upon completion. We accept cash, Zelle, or a check payable to Brice Wilkinson.
Aftercare
When should I fertilize new sod?
Tell your spray company not to fertilize for at least 30 days after installation, and ask them to put a note on your account.
How often should I water new sod?
Jax Sod’s instructions are to water in immediately for 45 minutes. For the first two weeks, water 45 minutes around 4 AM every day, plus 45 minutes around 4 PM if it is above 90°F. In week three, water every other day. After three weeks, move to the normal twice-weekly routine. Make sure your irrigation covers the whole lawn.
When can I mow new sod?
Wait until after three weeks for the first mow. Check that the roots hold and the ground is firm enough for the mower, and use the right cutting height for your grass.
When can I walk on new sod?
Limit traffic during establishment. Resume use gradually when roots hold the sod and the ground is firm; delay play, pets and equipment if pieces move or the soil ruts.
How long does it take for sod to fully root?
In Florida's growing season (spring/summer), sod typically roots in 2-4 weeks. Winter installations may take 6-8 weeks since growth is slower. Full establishment with deep roots takes 30-60 days.
Seasonal & Timing
What is the best time of year to install sod in Jacksonville?
Spring (March-May) is ideal — warm soil, mild temps, and the full growing season ahead. Early fall (September-October) is also excellent. Summer works with diligent watering, and winter installations are viable but slower to establish.
Can you install sod in winter?
Winter installation may be possible, but cool temperatures slow rooting and freezes can occur. We assess weather, active growth, irrigation restrictions and the site before recommending a date.
