Use a lawn fertilizer labeled for Zoysia, with nutrients selected for your soil and growing conditions. Zoysia can green up slowly in spring; UF/IFAS advises waiting until it is fully green and actively growing. Avoid adding nitrogen just to force a darker color.
Before you buy
Check the product label, soil-test guidance and local restrictions. Do not copy a feeding schedule from a different grass type.
Read the bag, then check the rules
The nutrient numbers describe the fertilizer’s nitrogen, phosphorus and potassium content. They do not tell you whether your lawn needs that product today. Match the label to the grass, use soil-test guidance and follow the rules for the property’s city and county.
